My Detox Diary
UPDATE 14th July 2012
I have been reformulating my detox plan as I have felt unwell and lacking energy in the last 10 days-2 weeks of the plan and re-tested myself, and some things have changed.
My Candida Albicans has gone YIPPEE! After 5 years of battling with it!! (I have written My Candida Story in the about me section) I realise the ill feeling and low energy must have been down to candida yeast die-off!
Also I have changed from a protein-type metabolism to a mixed-type. I felt I was eating too much meat and protein after the initial 2 weeks and as my system has obviously re-balanced itself it seems my feelings were right!
I am putting it down to the anti-parasitic properties of the Diatomaceous Earth, the enemas, reflexology and the diet in particular as in my opinion those would be the main controbuting factors.
I also had a tonic before I started – 10 days of maximum dose Zell Oxygen (we sell it in our shop). I have found this an excellent pick-me-up and is also suggested for Candida so I believe this is probably a factor too.
I will be re-testing my cholesterol and triglycerides so I will post those when I have done it!

START DATE 10TH JUNE 2012
For details on the detox plan, my diet, supplementation and exercise plans, please visit the ‘My Personal Detox’ page found in the Health Articles section, or you can click HERE.
I have listed my foods as ‘Throughout the Day’ and ‘Dinner’ because I rarely follow a set meal pattern but graze throughout the day from breakfast until about 3.30pm, then I build up my appetite for dinner at 5.30pm! I generally do not eat after dinner.
I have had some comments that this diet is unhealthy by mainstream standards, however it is specifically tailored to my metabolic and blood type. I have always eaten a lot of saturated fat (natural unadultered fat such as butter, coconut oil, animal fat) and the only oils I have are olive, avocado and hemp. My cholesterol is generally low, around 4, with my HDL levels (good cholesterol) being high and LDL (bad cholesterol) being very low. I also have very low triglycerides (soluable fat in the blood). This proves that mainstream dietary advice on cholesterol and fats are highly inaccurate for most people. In fact my cholesterol is too low and therefore I need to increase my levels as it has recently been discovered that having too low cholesterol is actually worse than too high.
Please feel free to leave any questions, suggestions, words of wisdom, encouragement or support in the comments box below (you need to register on the website first to leave a comment)!! The following diary is the latest entry first – HERE GOES!

DATE: MON 9th JULY
WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: berries, whey protein shake with nut milk
Dinner: fried eggs, pork, huge baked mushroom with butter and garlic
Drinks: ground coffee with cream & xylitol, lemon water, water, rooibos
EXERCISE: none
OTHER: Daily supplements, DE, magnesium bath
COMMENTS: This is my last public day on my detox! I may post another week or so once I have reformulated my diet. I am thinking of having a veggie day and meat day alternating for a week or so and see how that goes. I am feeling I am eating too much meat now, whereas at first I felt like I needed it. Maybe this is why it went so well and I lost some weight in the first 2 weeks but this last 2 weeks I have hardly lost any weight and am feeling not so great. So maybe I was deficient in animal protein to start with and now I am not and so I don’t need it so much. I will report back on ‘My Personal Detox’ page with my new plan once I have lokoed at it and analysed my needs more.
I am fairly pleased with the measurement results but I know I am lacking in something or maybe the fruit has fed my candida, as I am feeling run down and tired.
MEASUREMENTS: BMI: 32.0 (-1.1), Body Fat: 43.7% (-2%), Weight loss total: 5.5lbs, Inch loss: bust -3inches, waist -3inchs, hips -3inches

DATE: FRI 6th JULY
WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: few berries, sardines, chargrilled artichokes, spoonful of walnut cake (which wasn’t worth it !)
Dinner: lamb chops and salad
Drinks: ground coffee with cream & xylitol, water, rooibos
EXERCISE: none
OTHER: Daily supplements
COMMENTS: I have left off the DE to let myself recover from fighting off whatever it was that was trying to get me! I was weak at the cafe with the cake but only had 1 spoonful! I spent a long time today doing kinesiology food allergy tests as I have put on a bit of weight (however I have lost 1 inch from my bust, 2 inches from my waist and 2 inches from my hips). So I wanted to check that anything I was eating was not disagreeing with me. Last time I detoxed properly I did the anti-candida diet very strict for 8 months and found that I lost a lot of weight, so I feel something is wrong. Some surprising results too:
What came up as problems: sugar, bread, marmite (yeast), sunflower seeds (no surprises to the sugar, yeast and bread)
What came up as cautions: mushroom, chilli, billtong (could be the salt or vinegar so will check steak again), all fruit apart from redcurrants (from my garden!), brazil nuts, red lentils, mung beans, wheat flour, cacao
Very mild reactions: meat & onion
Surprising came up as OK: rye, milk (whole organic), spelt pasta, oats, potato, cheese & manuka honey – this is only the surprising list!!
So I will have a re-hash of my diet over the weekend and maybe look at things a bit differently, see if it needs tweaking a bit!
SCORE: 80% 😀

WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: Whey protein shake with hazelnut rice milk, left over roast beef
Dinner: BBQ – chicken wings, wheat free burger (no bread), salad, smoked salmon
Drinks: ground coffee with cream & xylitol, water, rooibos, bedtime herbal tea
EXERCISE: More gardening!
OTHER: Daily supplements, DE
COMMENTS: OK it’s confession time. I was tidying up after the barbeque and found my homemade fudge in the fridge – and I couldn’t resist. I only had about 2 chunks in total, but I feel horrible, sick and I have swelled up. The good thing that has become of this is that I have recognised an emotional eating pattern. I weighed last Friday morning and I had put 2lbs on. I really felt a bit down about this as I don’t think I deserved to put weight on, I have been really good, and I guess it has been playing on my mind a bit and I remember thinking when I found the fudge “well if I am going to put weight on when I am good then I may as well enjoy myself!”. I really felt bad as soon as I stopped eating but rather than beat myself up too much I am going to learn from this and try to deal with it differently next time. I am going to weigh and measure properly either tomorrow or Wednesday and record on here. Rationally now I realise that the weight gain could well be an increase in muscle mass as muscle weighs heavier than fat, and all the exercise I have been doing I could easily have still lost fat and inches! I think I will start measuring my bust, waist and hips so I can assess inch loss too! And I will get someone to eat up the fudge so I can’t have any more!!!
SCORE: 80% 🙁
______________________________________________________________________
DATE: SUN 24th JUNE
WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: Whole egg omelette (basically peppers, tomatoes, onions & mushrooms fried in butter, instead of pouring on whisked egg to make omelette I put on 2 whole eggs because I like the runny yolks!).
Dinner: Roast beef, steamed whole carrots, peas, homemade gravy (with organic cornflour)
Drinks: ground coffee with cream & xylitol, hot water with lemon, rooibos, bedtime herbal tea
EXERCISE: 3 hours of hard gardening!
OTHER: Daily supplements, DE, Epsom Salt bath
COMMENTS: Felt great again today! It was hard work gardening so I may just let myself off exercise tomorrow, although there is more to do! I have been a bit bunged up and I think it may be from the rice I had. Maybe this is a suspect food for me. I am learning how to detect food intolerances and allergies by kinesiology muscle testing in my diagnosis diploma at the moment so I may give it a go! I had a lovely bath with 1Kg epsom salts in. Should help draw the toxins out!

DATE: FRI 22nd JUNE
WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: Whey Protein shake with nut milk and DE
Dinner: Lamb curry, rice, poppadom (made with lentil flour), Onion bhaji (made with gram flour)
Drinks: ground coffee with cream & xylitol x 2, water with lemon, rooibos, sugar free (sweetened with apple juice only) dandelion & burdock with fizzy water, bedtime herbal tea
EXERCISE: Housework
OTHER: Daily supplements, DE, coffee enema
COMMENTS: I skipped breakfast as I wanted to do the enema on an empty stomach then I rested my digestive system by not eating until 7pm – apart from the protein shake to keep me going! I had a 2L water enema first to clear any blockages and make the coffee enema more comfortable. Then I had 1L strong coffee diluted with 1L water. I managed to hold it for only a few minutes! But it certainlymust have helped my liver and body to detox as I peed a lot throughout the rest of the day! I studied a lot today so as to take my mind off being hungry 🙂
SCORE: 90% 🙂 – I only awarded myself 90% as I got the curry from our local Indian. I checked ingredients though to make sure it was all OK, but the rice was white not brown and I expect the poppadoms were cooked in veg oil not coconut.

DATE: THURS 21st JUNE
WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: Steak & homemade coleslaw (left overs), pear, cherries, nuts, strawberries, parma ham
Dinner: Seafood salad – smoked salmon, cockles & mussles with salad and seaweed
Drinks: ground coffee with cream & xylitol, coconut water, water with lemon, rooibos, bedtime herbal tea
EXERCISE: day of rest today (although non stop in work & then straight to a meeting afterwards!). My back is still quite achy so I didn’t go to Yoga (not my class – someone else’s!) – I don’t feel guilty, I feel good about this as I have shown my body compassion 🙂
OTHER: Daily supplements, DE
COMMENTS: Much better today and feeling positive again! I swelled up like a balloon straight after eating a pear and it was really uncomfortable. I looked about 8 months pregnant! So that is 2 things on my suspect list now – pears and rice. After the rice last weekend I felt constipated for a few days. I probably will keep an eye on how I am after this weekend as I plan to have a small amount of rice again as a test. I will avoid pears for a while and try them again when my pear tree bears fruit! I am going to do a coffee enema tomorrow morning as I hav had such a bad reaction to the pear.
SCORE: 100% 😀

OTHER: Daily supplements, DE – 1/2 teaspoon (in my shake)
MEASUREMENTS: BMI: 32.2 (-0.9), Body Fat: 43.1% (-1.8%), Weight loss: 1.8lbs (total -5lbs)
COMMENTS: Feeling not-so-great today. It is quite possible the after effects of reflexology or maybe some PMT. I am still feeling positive and confident, but had a bit of a lull today when nothing was right and I got quite emotional! I am very achy from Yoga in my lower back and pelvis (where I have weakness) and am supposed to be going again tomorrow evening!
SCORE: 100% 😀

EXERCISE: Yoga – 1hr 30mins
OTHER: Daily supplements, DE – 1/2 teaspoon, 260billion multi probiotics, I had my ears candled too as my ears are itchy and achy, magnesium & Dead Sea Salt bath
COMMENTS: Feeling great today. The reflexology worked without my having to do an enema but I do plan to do a coffee one very soon to help my liver with the detox. I can’t believe how much more positive and confident I am feeling. My fear of the telephone has even got much better as I actually rang a few companies with issues we had been putting off for a while! I am actually feeling like I am taking control of my life rather than letting things happen and just dealing with them. And this can only be down to detoxing and eating the right foods as these are the only things I have really changed!

COMMENTS: Feeling good again. My reflexology session was quite painful as it is the first I have had since starting the detox so it showed that the detox is working. I am feeling a bit bloated today maybe I am a bit constipated. I do not expect to go to the toilet everyday when eating a diet so low in carbs but it has been a few days. Maybe I will have a coffee enema in the morning if I wake up in time. If not I will do it Wednesday.

COMMENTS: Feeling really good again but a bit of a sore throat so I had silver this morning. I cooked Sunday dinner for 11 people including yorkshires, roasties, mash, all the favourites, but I only stuck to my veg and meat. Desserts of cheesecake (my favourite), apple pie & custard, vienetta, mini donuts, treats of homemade nutty fudge and coconut ice, but I had NONE! I am very pleased with myself indeed!! I picked on teh veg as I was cutting it up and the meat as I was carving it, and the nut raost as I was making it so apart from the roast dinner that is all I felt like!

COMMENTS: Feeling really good again today. Been really busy at the summer fair so I forgot about eating until my tummy grumbled! I made fudge and coconut ice for Fathers Day presents last night so I cut them up this evening, and the fudge was more like caramel 🙁 this meant it was really messy and I kept automatically licking my fingers – that was not good as it gave me trapped wind afterwards, so I had instant karma!
SCORE: 90% 🙂

DATE: FRI 15TH JUNE
WHAT I ATE
Throughout the day: Pork Belly slice (left over from yesterday), poppadoms (made with only lentil flour), and Pataks lime pickle (all ingredients are fine!) – YUMMY!

COMMENTS: Feeling really good today with quite a bit of energy but I am not feeling very hungry at all. I even did some practice reflexology treatments on my family, one after the other this evening. I have also noticed a much more positive outlook and a clearer perception. I had a tired episode at 4pm and kept yawning so I had another coffee. Still smelly though – and my hair is getting greasier too.

COMMENTS: Extremely busy today, so much that I skipped breakfast and lunch (apart from scooping some peanut butter out of the jar!) but I did drink water etc. I felt quite sicky before leaving work, which I expect was from lack of eating, hence I grabbed a bag of crisps (good quality Tyrrels but none-the-less, crisps) after eating about 5 crisps I realised and handed the pack to my husband who kindly finished them for me!
I have been feeling quite thirsty today, still quite chilly but them the weather is not that great! I have noticed I am a bit smelly today despite having a magnesium bath last night, but I know this is from toxins leaving my body through the sweat, so I guess that is good!

Hi Danielle,
Like you, I have been on a detox/diet adjustment plan for just over a month now. My approach was a bit less analytical, and more “see what happens”-experimental. My aim was to gain energy, and to lose a few pounds, which crept on after I gave up smoking 5 months ago. I do not own scales, so I just go by how well my clothes fit and how I feel with the weight loss. Zeolite, DE and plenty of Chlorella, together with kidney support drops, are my main detox supplements.
As a life-long vegetarian, I had worked out, that my protein intake was below requirement. I did go for whey protein concentate at first, but I found, that the really good stuff, which is not overly high in saturated fats and nasty additives like aspertame, is really expensive. I also found, that the whey protein shakes caused abdominal bloat, which was really quite uncomfortable. Then I came upon the idea of using hemp protein powder instead, which I mix with a bit of pea protein and wheat grass powder, and barley grass powder, for their respective additional benefits. This mix I add to a home made fruit or veg smoothie with a bit of coconut milk. No more bloat. I cut all starchy carbs from my breakfast (to avoid setting the day up for carb cravings), and I keep to a 50 – 75% raw diet without measuring or calorie counting. For treats I eat very dark fairtrade chocolate. My main exercise is walking, and I aim for about 10,000 steps at least 5 days a week. Wearing a step counter for a few days gives you an idea of how far you go on what walks, so you can calculate. I also wear wrist weights while doing house work, to tighten up my arms a bit, combined with some arm exercises, whenever there is an opportunity (no extra time slot required for this type of exercise).
I have now lost most of my spare tire, hooray! But most of all, I feel a lot more energetic and focused, and able to tackle long put-off problem areas in my life.
I think it is great to share these cleansing and detox experiences, so we can pick up new ideas from each other.
Thanks for starting this up by making your experiences available to us!
Hi!
Thanks so much for sharing your detox experience – yes I agree that it is really good to share our information and experiences as we can learn so much from each other.
I would love to be vegetarian, but when I was veggie for a few years I was quite ill. When I studied nutritional therapy I realised that my blood and metablic type actually need animal protein and in particular high purine proteins which cannot be found in non-animal sources.
I personally find whey protein concentrate excellent and only use the pure 100% whey protein concentrate (not isolate or any flavoured which generally includes horrid sweeteners etc). I get it from myprotein.com but I must say unfortunately it is not organic. I have not tried hemp protein but I do intend to when my whey protein stock has gone down.
I am now a mixed type, so I have introduced some carbs back in, and things are going OK but it is triggering some cravings. I will see how it goes but I have reduced my meat intake now and opting for veggie dinners and fish more. I will take the test again in a few weeks and see if anything has changed.
I sometimes take Asphalia which helps with sleep and is made from barleygrass and wheatgrass!
What a great idea to use wrist weights – prevents the ‘bingo wings’ haha
With love, Dani 🙂
PS I am not using the scales much and have found that my clothes are fitting better, but on the occasion I have weighed my weight has gone up a little which shows my muscle must be increasing and fat reducing and also shows that weighing in itself is not the be-all-and-end-all of it!
